    New Chrysler 200 hails icons of American design

    DETROIT -- When it come to keeping the new 2015 Chrysler 200 close to its Detroit roots, designers looked to icons of American design for inspiration -- Chris Craft yachts, Eames chairs and Airstream trailers.

    Chrysler plans to press home the all-American marketing message in selling the car -- even if the new 200's underpinnings are Italian. It will also emphasize quality.

    The car is crafted in higher-quality materials -- from wood to aluminum -- not just plastic, says Klaus Busse, Chrysler's head of interior design. That will keep the car feeling authentic.

    "We wanted to take that kind of spirit ... and use these materials in a more honest way," Busse said. "America has a lot of cachet, no matter where you are in the world, so why not embrace the fact that you are from Detroit."
