      • Pseudo-biographical film, strictly from make-believe: where composer Juventino Rosas' life seems to have been marked by ethnic/NativeMexican/rural poverty and disadvantage, by chronic alcoholism and by dying in a charity hospital at 26, this la-la land version of his life has him moving freely in the highest circles, being feted by Porfirio Diaz and buried in state.

Ignoring the untruthiness of it all, it's not much of a movie, either -- Ismael Rodriguez at his most cliched and conventional. Early example of color film in Mexico, though; possibly interesting for that reason.

        An attempt of biography.

Juventino Rosas was a great Mexican composer, unfortunately his music was not appreciated in that time, many people thought he didn't create his wonderful music. "Sobre las olas" is the name of his most famous waltz, as a matter of fact it is played in many Mexican parties. This film is about him, to show his talent, his true love who finished in unhappiness and loneliness. It's dramatic and tragic, but I recommend another remake, which was created in 1950 and it was interpreted by Pedro Infante, I would rather see this second version than the first one. By the way, I watched this movie on t.v. On the video-stores we can not find this film, it's unknown, but we can find the remake.
