Offended by Hitler shop
Re: ''Indian shop to change its name after outcry'' (Business, Sept 5).
I don't easily get offended, especially with branding and advertisements. But when the two owners of a menswear shop in India called their shop ''Hitler'', with a swastika as the dot on the ''i'', they went over the line. Eventually, due to public outcry from Jewish community and Israeli officials, the owners were forced to change the store's name. The striking thing was what the co-owner said: ''I was not aware of Hitler being responsible for the killing of 6 million people.''
Today, there are still some Holocaust survivors left. And Jewish authorities are still searching around the world for those hiding and responsible for the atrocities. That said, I am sure Prince Harry will be pleased to purchase items from the store as he had once dressed up as a Nazi officer to a party.
Having Hitler's name for a clothing store is offensive and downright insensitive to those affected by the crimes against humanity. While the owners of the Indian clothing store may have had a solid marketing plan, what they lacked is a basic knowledge in history in this time of rampant consumerism that we live in.
